The FCC Office of Native Affairs and Policy is seeking applications for membership on the Native Nations Communications Task Force. The issues to be considered by the Task Force may include, but are not limited to: (i) executing the Commission’s Tribal Consultation policy; (ii) identifying barriers to broadband deployment that are unique to Tribal lands; (iii) ensuring Tribal concerns are considered in all Commission proceedings related to broadband and other Commission undertakings that affect Tribal interests regarding communications services and facilities."
According the toe FCC's 2018 Broadband Deployment Report, "adoption rates on Tribal Lands is just 32.6%."

New Mexico Technology Council will host the 10th Annual Women in Technology Celebration on Thursday, March 8th, 2018 to "recognize the achievements of women working in New Mexico’s technology arena, promoting the role of women in tech and science, and encouraging women to pursue careers in these fields. They will also recognize the National Center for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT) Aspirations in Computing winners. The NCWIT Aspirations in Computing awards honors young women at the high school level for their computing-related achievements and interests. Recipients are selected for their computing and IT aptitude, leadership ability, academic history, and plans for post-secondary. Awardees from NM will be honored at our event!" PLUS, the keynote speaker will be Santa Fe's very own Karen McKinnon!"Karen McKinnon relocated to New Mexico in 2017 from her native Colorado to join Descartes Labs as an Applied Scientist. She received her PhD in Earth and Planetary Sciences from Harvard University in 2015; her doctorate research focused on developing novel statistical and physical models for climate variability with applications ranging from extreme events to long-term climate change. After finishing up her degree, she moved back to Colorado by way of New York City to spend two years as an Advanced Study Program post-doctoral fellow at the National Center for Atmospheric Research. When not wrangling data and writing code, Karen can be found going on outdoor adventures throughout the West."
