Santa Fe and Northern New Mexico will be joining a national network of 72 TechHire communities committed to growing the the Technology economy and education pipeline and spearheading efforts to help overlooked and underrepresented Americans start technology careers. “We are very pleased to welcome Santa Fe and Northern New Mexico to the TechHire Initiative,” said Tess Posner, Managing Director of TechHire at Opportunity@Work, Santa Fe and Northern New Mexico have demonstrated a true commitment to making opportunities in tech more inclusive, and we at Opportunity@Work look forward to working with you to help implement, grow, and amplify your efforts.” Aware of the growing Emerging Media and Technology economy in Santa Fe and Northern New Mexico, Community Learning Network launched www.nmtechworks.com in the spring of 2016 to begin mapping the local Tech ecosystem and promoting Tech education in the region. As an a training partner, the locally-based accelerator training provider, Cultivating Coders, will facilitate 8-week coding bootcamps in Northern New Mexico to prepare rural and under-represented students to serve as Junior Software Developers. The TechHire initiative includes growing a regional TechWorks Task Force and building online Tech resources including a Tech Business Directory and a Tech Video Bank of educational, youth-friendly interviews with local tech professionals. The initiative will highlight educational opportunities and showcase Tech business enterprises and innovators, while promoting local Tech events, workshops, summer camps, and training programs, with a commitment to support Tech training for more than 500 local residents by 2020.
