Picture
Name: JC Ramirez

Business/Organization: Rainy Media

Where were you born: Jesus Maria, Aguascalientes, Mexico

Where do you live now: Santa Fe, New Mexcio, USA

Email: jc@rainymedia.com

Phone: 505-913-1023

Where are you from and how did you end up in Santa Fe?

I am originally from Aguascalientes, Mexico, a small metropolitan city in the center of Mexico geographically. I do not remember much from there due to the fact that my family immigrated here to Santa Fe when I was 3 years old.

How did your personal and professional background influence where you are today?

As an immigrant child, schooling was the major focus as it is the first step towards building a better life. My parents decided that Santa Fe would be best for us because I could get an education here and it is a beautiful city.

What kind of work do you do?

I am currently a 3D printer technician for The Fabrication Lab Hub. I help run 3D prints for manufacturing 3D printed prototypes for businesses and students at SFCC where the lab is located.

Besides that, I have my own graphic design agency called Rainy Media. What we do is we help businesses with their digital needs. Anything from creating their logo and designs, 3D modeling products and animating, shooting and editing their videos for commercials, creating and maintaining their websites, and anything in between. We work to be the go-to place for anything digital.

What business or organization do you work with?

We have worked for many organizations locally such as Zozobra, Fab Lab Hub, Rising Stars in the South West, Xerb.tv, NMCFO, The New Baking Company Restaurant, and many entrepreneurs that need help that is affordable but still professional.

Why did you decide to work in tech, or this kind of work?

Since as early as I can remember I have always been interested in tech. I remember I would always be on the family desktop when I was young. I was either doing my homework, learning how to do new things, or exploring emerging media and looking at tech-related news.

Describe your perspective on technology and its capabilities for the future.

I have a deep appreciation for technology and have an enthusiastic outlook for the future possibilities of technology. Technology has made the world a better place with its advancement in science, medicine, architecture, agriculture, communications, and any other field imaginable. In all these fields, improvements mean that humans are able to be more productive with the help of technology.

Do you use social media? Why or why not?

Professionally, I use social media to share what work either myself or a business I am involved with, the type of work we are doing in the community. If I find that the community would like to see what we are working on, I like to capture, create, and share posts on social media. I think this is an effective way to advertise because most people nowadays have social media. With the tools social media offers, we are able to share posts with people we think would find value in what we do and there are also capabilities to financially profit with certain advertisements.

What advice would you give to younger people that are interested in entrepreneurship and technology or living and working in Santa Fe?

As a tutor for high school, I have encouraged my students to always follow their interests. Specifically for technologically inclined students, I try to open up their views on exactly what's possible in technology. Technology is a tool that can be applied in any field. I would recommend thinking about how they can introduce technology into a field they are already excited and interested in.

How has inventing technology or using technology helped you move forward?

Using technology has helped me help businesses with their needs. Since I have been more familiarized with technology, I have been able to improve the work other companies need to do by helping them use technology to their advantage. Technology can be overwhelming, which is why having knowledge of how it works can benefit not only me in my personal life running my business, but other businesses to run their businesses more efficiently.

What role do you think IT will play in Santa Fe? How do you see Innovation as a part of our current or future economy?

Information Technology will remain a big part of Santa Fe and any city. Innovation will always require human maintenance. That's just the thing with technology, its all about trial and error. There has been plenty of technological inventions, but it is only the best tech that moves forward to be adopted into our lives.
Well-rounded individuals with wide and flexible technological knowledge are best suited for the future because the future is always working out the bugs that are bound to come with the efforts to push the boundaries of innovative technology. Adaptability should be the number one skill for the sake of the economy to be able to deal with frequent changes or emerging tech, not only in the city but in the world.

What is your favorite thing about working with technology?

A couple of my favorite things about working in tech is that I am always able to learn something new every day, finding better ways to accomplish something, and always being able to work from anywhere with a wifi connection. With technology these days we are always connected to the tools we need to do our work. Technology also always keeps us on the edge so there is always new tech to keep us excited. Humans are the base of technology. We create the technology that we think would make our lives better.
