Emerging media and technologies are those that are perceived as being capable of changing the status quo. They are technical innovations that represent progressive developments in the digital media space; converging and emergent technologies." Emerging Media" includes, but is not limited to (i) video game industries that develop technology and content intended for onlinemultiplayer, console, mobile, and social environments; (ii) immersive and augmented reality industries focused on the display of imagery and information in three dimensional and holographic form, videomapping, multitouch surfaces, and other forms of advanced visualization; (iii) the design of new platforms and display environments for envisioning social, medical, scientific and industrial information through the use of creative computing; and (iv )the production of images using special effects, and software developed for the exclusive use of a special effects production company.

Job Training Incentive Program (JTIP)
New Mexico has one of the most generous training incentive programs in the country. The Job Training Incentive Program (JTIP) funds classroom and on-the-job training for newly-created jobs in expanding or relocating businesses for up to six months. The program reimburses 50-75 percent of employee wages. Custom training at a New Mexico public educational institution may also be covered. The New Mexico State Legislature created JTIP, formerly known as the Industrial Development Training Program, or “in plant training,” in 1972. Since then, JTIP has supported the creation of 42,000 jobs for New Mexicans in more than 1,100 businesses across the state. www.gonm.biz
LANL Foundation
The Los Alamos National Laboratory Foundation’s mission is to enhance the vitality of Northern New Mexico by investing in education, learning and community development. The vision for the Foundation is to serve as a catalyst and leader for successful innovation in community and educational endeavors, engaging the region in creating excellence in education. The Foundation primarily works in a seven county area that includes Los Alamos, Mora, Rio Arriba, Sandoval, Santa Fe, Taos and San Miguel Counties. Created in April 1997 through a combination of allocations from Los Alamos National Laboratory and congressional appropriations through the Department of Energy, the LANL Foundation is organized and operated as a New Mexico nonprofit corporation and independent tax-exempt charitable and educational organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. LANL Foundation currently has a 25-member staff and is governed by an active and committed Board of Directors composed of the best community and business leadership in Northern New Mexico. The Foundation started with a $35 million endowment that has now grown to approximately $78 million. The Inquiry Science Education Consortium (ISEC) is a LANL Foundation initiative that uses experiential methods to teach science. We provide curriculum, materials and teacher professional development to spark in kids a love of science investigation and experimentation. This program serves over 11,000 students, 443 teachers and 37 schools in Northern New Mexico.
The Los Alamos National Laboratory also supports higher education and workforce development. So far, we have awarded $5 million in scholarships to over 1,000 students. Over 92% of scholars graduate from college and 70% pursue STEM in school or the workforce. Jennifer M. Parks, CEO

New Mexico Technology Cluster
IN 2009, students in Los Alamos National Laboratory’s MBA program completed an assessment of Northern New Mexico’s Technology Cluster under the leadership of Steve Stringer, Industrial Fellow at LANL. The resulting Technology Cluster Strategy has led to a strong private sector partnership with the New Mexico Technology Council, which is working in partnership with Regional Economic Development Initiative to grow the cluster and establish a Technology Leadership Council for the region.

‘Northern New Mexico Leadership Council’ to connect technology-oriented serve as a forum to improve coordination of program, policy and other efforts among several Northern New Mexico organizations whose mission currently includes technology-oriented business development. In the coming year, NMTC will develop a communications strategy to highlight regional technology success stories to raise public awareness about the importance of technology in the economy and to build value for Northern New Mexico’s technology brand and create programs that build and identify Northern New Mexico participants, build connections between them, and develop opportunities for projects and other work that can lead to business formation.

The Regional Development Corporation - A regional economic development organization for Northern New Mexico, focused on creating a diverse and sustainable economy. The RDC works collaboratively to create new jobs in the region by strengthening services to businesses and developing the infrastructure, public policy and workforce to support job growth. Our principal service areas are Los Alamos, Rio Arriba, Santa Fe, Taos, San Miguel, Mora and Sandoval counties. The RDC oversees a number of small business oriented programs in Northern New Mexico, including the Native American Venture Acceleration Fund (Native American VAF), Los Alamos Connect (LosAlamosConnect.net), Northern New Mexico 20/20 (nnm2020.org) and Regional Economic Development Initiative (NNMREDI.org). It also oversees a workforce development program called Accelerate New Mexico (AccelerateNM.org) in collaboration with six northern New Mexico Colleges, regional organizations, and businesses. The Regional Development Corporation (RDC) is a private non-profit, 501(c)3 Economic Development Organization (EDO) whose primary service area is Northern New Mexico. The RDC was incorporated in 1996 to serve as the Department of Energy (DOE) Los Alamos Site “Community Reuse Organization” (CRO). As a CRO, the RDC’s mission is to diversify the economy within the north central New Mexico region. As a result, the RDC maintains a special working relationship with both the DOE and Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). The RDC assists Northern New Mexico communities and small businesses with economic development activities, and actively works to further job creation in the region. We work with community leaders to address the increasingly rapid pace of technological, social and environmental change in Northern New Mexico by assisting communities and industry in managing their economic projects and initiatives.
