“We love what is happening in Santa Fe around independent filmmaking
and feel that our school offers the right set up skills.”
David Shulman, president of Seattle Film Institute
Seattle Film Institute was established in 1994 to address a growing population of independent filmmakers in the Seattle area.
“Our students begin making films their very first day in class,” Shulman continues.
“It’s our hands-on approach that delivers the practical knowledge and real-world training as well as the conceptual skills needed in today’s competitive entertainment fields.
Plus, we train for almost every role you see in the credits of any film.
That’s the kind of career-based curriculum students can expect at SFI.”
The film industry continues to have strong growth in New Mexico.
Santa Fe County projects that more than $100 million will be spent in production
in the region this year.
SFCC has about 180 film majors.
SFI and SFCC have also reached out to students
at Santa Fe University of Art and Design to help them earn a bachelor’s degree.
A Memorandum of Understanding was signed by SFI with SFUAD.
This will allow for students to continue to pursue a bachelor’s degree
and finish their general education credits through SFCC.
The agreement will allow both filmmaking and audio recording pathways with SFI.
Seattle Film Institute’s program in Santa Fe will provide an innovative structure
blending on-ground and online classes. Students will go through the program as a cohort meaning they stay together as a group for the entire program, which builds the collaborative skills that are essential in a filmmaking career. The hands-on classes such as production and editing provide the core of the on-ground learning while classes such as film history take place via an online platform.
Seattle Film Institute through the collaboration with SFCC at the Higher Education Center will also offer the only Masters of Fine Arts (MFA) pathway in film production in New Mexico starting this fall for students who are looking for a graduate program.
“Having production MFA programs is important if New Mexico plans to have a competitive independent filmmaking base. Graduate students across the country are the ones who are the most successful in achieving their dreams of being working directors, writers or cinematographers.”
