Upward Bound Math & Science
is a college preparatory program that provides low income and first-generation-to-college high school students in the Albuquerque area with the tools necessary to graduate high school, enroll in a postsecondary institution, and enjoy successful careers in math and science fields.
During the regular APS school year, UBMS offers students a free tutoring program after school one day per week with an additional day offered at the UBMS office. During these sessions, students have the opportunity to work in groups or individually with the tutor, to help improve their performance in their core academic courses.
In addition, one Saturday per month,
students participate in the activities which include workshops, seminars, field trips, laboratory experience, and research projects. Saturday Sessions empower students to and develop their math and science skills. But the sessions also enhance students language, cultural and social experiences.
For six weeks during the summer,
UBMS students stay at NMT and participate in a full, residential college experience. Under the careful supervision of the UBMS staff, students will live in the residence halls, eat in the dining hall, receive intensive instruction in STEM and college preparatory classes, and make use of the facilities available at UNM. This program is designed to simulate the college experience and to help generate the skills and motivation necessary for students to succeed in high school and beyond.
For more information about the program and how to apply, contact Donna Jaramillo, UBMS Coordinator, at donna.jaramillo@nmt.edu.
